Courtney is a Brisbane based dancer and choreographer whose practice seeks to elevate the human spirit. Drawing from literature, improvisation and varying disciplines, she explores the physical potential of the human body and how she might use her choreographic practice to disrupt familiar patterns of moving.
In 2011, Courtney was selected to perform with להקת מחול תמי/נמרוד פריד Tami Dance Company/Nimrod Freed (Israel) in the improvisation work PeepDance - Brisbane Tel Aviv during Brisbane Festival. Courtney was invited to perform PeepDance with Tami Dance again in the 2012 Venice Biennale of Architecture (Venice) on a travel scholarship from QUT. After completing her Honours in 2012 (exploring the application of improvised movement scores within choreographic practice) Courtney has collaborated with various artists, presenting work for Anywhere Theatre Festival, the Backbone Youth Arts 2high Festival Brisbane, the Brisbane Dance Industry Night (JWCoCA), the Brisbane Fringe Festival, the Crack Theatre Festival, Ignite12!, You Are Here as part of the Centenary of Canberra celebrations, and independently in Brisbane and Melbourne.
In 2014, Courtney toured around QLD performing new dance theatre works 'Shift' and ‘No Way’, choreographed by Liesel Zink and commissioned by Artslink Queensland. She has also been in residency at the The Arts Centre Gold Coastl through Ausdance Queensland’s Creative Development Residency Program looking at the relationship between dance and responsive technology. Courtney is committed to developing her practice and creating work in Brisbane, contributing to conversations of dance and the overall cultural landscape of the city.
